Asia Argento grew up in Rome Italy. Her family is a group of actors, as is she, herself working in both fields. When she was nine she made her feature film debut with Sergio Citti in Sogni e bisogni. In 1988 The Church, a film by Michele Soavi The Church was directed by Michele Soavi and she played the role of Cristina Comencini's Zoo. In 1989, she portrayed Nanni Moretti's baby for the film Red Wood Pigeon. (Also directed by Moretti). Close Friends (written and directed by Michele Placido) was when Asia's acting career took off. Her roles went from young roles before becoming more mature. Cannes International Film Festival received the film with great awe. The film, Trauma (1993), she was the first to work alongside her father, the renowned Italian filmmaker Dario Argento (her mother is among Argento's favorite actresses, Daria Nicolodi, playing an overweight girl who is in search for her parents' killer. The Phantom of the Opera is her third film that she's co-produced with her father, the others being Trauma and The Stendhal SyndromeAsia's intense, dramatic style was well-loved by Giuseppe Picioni's Condannato A Nozze. In 1993, she was a co-star in the film Perdiamoci di Vista where she played Arianna, a physically disabled girl--an intricate, difficult character that earned it an award from David di Donatello award for the best actress . Patrice Chereau directed Queen Margot and she had a role as a physically disabled girl in that film. In 1995, her collaboration alongside Michel Piccoli, in Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion won her yet another award, this time the David di Donatello and Grolla of Oro. In 1994 Asia decided to try her hand at the art of directing, and produced two short films: Prospettive in 1996, she made a documentary of her father, and in 1998, she directed a documentary about the legendary director Abel Ferrara, Abel/Asia (1998) and was awarded an award at the Rome Film Festival. Asia was first introduced as a director of feature in Scarlet Diva (2000). The film featured her as a director. She was also the lead actress and wrote the screenplay. The film was made available all over the world in May 2000. It was awarded a special award by the Williamsburg Film festival in Brooklyn. Anna Lou, her first child, was born in the year 2001. She has directed numerous music videos. In 2002, Asia starred as Jean-Marc Barr's co-star The Red Siren (Olivier Megaton) as well as Vin Diesel was the star of Rob Cohen's thriller action The Action. Asia also wrote a few short stories that have been published by a number of magazines.
